Tide and Texas

The University of Texas Longhorns and the University of Alabama Crimson Tide will face-off on Thursday night for the BCS National Championship of college football. Texas is not favored to win, but I’m sure they can still pull it off (maybe). The last time Texas fought for the national championship was in January 2006, and that’s when they upset USC with a last-minute victory.

As The New York Times reminds us, Texas and Alabama fought hard over the 1965 Orange Bowl game, which led to a controversial result. It was also a historic era in college football, with Alabama’s legendary Bear Bryant up against Texas coaching icon Darrell Royal. Future teammates Joe Namath and Pete Lammons also battled from opposite sides of the field, and this article’s brief reflection is a great primer for this week’s game.
