The Cannes Film Festival has announced that director Tim Burton will be the Jury President for the 63rd edition of the festival, to take place May 12 to 23.
“After spending my early life watching triple features and 48-hour horror movie marathons, I’m finally ready for this,” said the director of such films as “Edward Scissorhands,” “Beetlejuice,” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” upon accepting the invitation. “It’s a great honor and I look forward, with my fellow jurors, to watching some great films from around the world. When you think of Cannes you think of world cinema. And as films have always been like dreams to me, this is a dream come true.”
Burton’s latest, a 3D adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland” starring Johnny Depp, opens in the US on March 5. The official selection for the 2010 Cannes Film Festival will be announced in mid-April.
