Toronto Fest Is Officially Moving Downtown

We’ve known this was happening for years, but the Toronto International Film Festival is officially moving downtown for its 2010 edition.

“The 35th festival will see all press and industry screenings take place in downtown Toronto at both the Scotiabank Theatre (formerly the Paramount) and the TIFF Group’s brand new film centre, the Bell Lightbox,” writes ScreenDaily. “The new host hotel is the Hyatt Regency, which is located next door to the Bell Lightbox.”

It should make for an interesting new and considerably more concentrated vibe for the fest, as much as I’m a much bigger fan of its former neighbourhood than I am of its new one. Shitty thing for me is, my semi-sorta home in Toronto is and will be up until April like 3 blocks from the Bell Lightbox. Effective after that, it heads way, way west. Either way, out-of-towners, I’d consider changing up your TIFF housing routine sooner rather than later. And Torontonians who live in the Lightbox vicinity, I’d consider making vacation plans for September and renting out your place for some very decent cash.
