Far be it from CBS to miss the chance to tout David Letterman’s late night show on the most watched TV program of the year, the Super Bowl. Makes sense. But, why would Jay Leno — the subject of countless recent cajoling by Letterman — sign on to promote a competitor? Was he actually in the room with Letterman for twenty second spot, folks wondered immediately on Twitter.
Well, shortly after the promo aired, tonight, Oprah tweeted: “Yes that was REAL D, J and me. Shot Tuesday nite in New York undercover at D’s studio.”
Oprah interviewed Leno on her own show recently, chatting about it after the program on her website.
UPDATE: Bill Carter, at the New York Times, has the inside story on how the spot came together — disguises and all.
