Quick Thoughts From The Lovely Cleveland Film Festival

I haven’t had much in the way of time since I finished off a week-long stint in Cleveland as a member of the Cleveland International Film Festival’s Eastern European Jury (I got back to Toronto yesterday, where six weeks worth of to-dos and bills met me; as did the fact that I am moving in three days). But in an attempt to at least make good on some sort of Cleveland-related reflection, here’s a story summing up the fest over I wrote over at indieWIRE (including my jury’s selections), and less journalistically let me just note: The staff and attendees at that fest are truly something else. I don’t think I’ve ever felt such a family-esque vibe from a film festival, and it was a pleasure to get a glimpse of a community that, frankly, I’d probably never even think to make my way to otherwise (an added bonus was the constant bizarre presence of the very lovely Jennifer Coolidge – who didn’t have a film in the fest but just happened to be in town, so she hit up films and even joined in on some informal nightly celebrations). So anyway, thanks Cleveland, you’re too kind, and congrats on having such a successful 34th year (attendance skyrocketed).
