Shirin Neshat's "Women Without Men" to be released by IndiePix

Shirin Neshat’s film “Women Without Men” won the Silver Lion Award for Best Director at the 2009 Venice Film Festival and recently had sold out screenings at the Film Society of Lincoln Center and MoMA during New Directors/New Films. Now IndiePix will release the film theatrically in Los Angeles on April 9th and in New York mid May. The film is provocative Iranian photographer Neshat’s directorial debut, and is set against the backdrop of the 1953 CIA-backed coup d’état in Iran. The film juxtaposes four women’s experiences during this historical turning point, using magical realism to tell the globally important story. [Sophia Savage]
