When Cannes Film Festival Thierry Fremaux takes the stage at the Paris Le Grand hotel tomorrow, he will unveil the lineup for the 63rd without a number of key journalists in attendance. Reuters, AP, Agence France Presse, and Getty TV will not cover the announcement tomorrow morning, according to the BBC.
A deeper festival sponsorship deal with French TV network Canal Plus and provider Orange will give the official supporters greater access to live video from festival events. The exclusivity is jeopardizing the ability for Reuters, AP, AFP and Getty to service their subscribers, they say. If the outlets can’t settle their dispute with the festival, they say they’ll reconsider covering the event next month.
“In a press release, the agencies said they ‘may be forced to suspend their presence at the festival altogether’ if an agreement was not reached,” the BBC reported.
