HBO's Tilda Pilot Starts Filming with Keaton in June

The pilot script for an HBO half-hour comedy series, Tilda, written by Bill Condon and Cynthia Mort, is hilarious. (SPOILER ALERT.) Of course Tilda, who blogs out of her L.A. apartment (which resembles my two-story duplex near Fairfax and Pico, although I do not have a rat) is closely modeled after the Nikki Finke reported in Tad Friend’s New Yorker profile.

But there are differences from the real Finke. For one thing, while she was once married, she does not have a daughter. (I do.) And while Finke does not press the flesh at screenings, premieres and parties –because she does not like meeting the people she writes about, as she told Friend– she does leave her house. (She took a post-Oscar vacation in Mexico recently.) Tilda is a real agoraphobe–her entire life is delivered to her door, including her IT man, with whom she has sex.

Tilda’s M.O.–strong-arming people for info, threatening, getting people fired–is utterly entertaining. Finke should be flattered, this is good publicity. (A classic tit-for-tat went down this week, as Variety’s Brian Lowry accused Finke of going soft, while she in turn called him “useless” in her report about Todd McCarthy joining indieWIRE.) And Tilda going after venal Hollywood asshole power-brokers also puts us on her side. Like most Hollywood upgrades, this blogger is more likable, more vulnerable and appealing than her inspiration.

Condon will start shooting with Keaton in L.A. the first week of June. He’ll exec produce the show with Mort, if it goes to series.
