Restrepo closes

Restrepo closes

Months before NatGeo releases the Sundance-winning doc “Restrepo,” the NYT reports that U.S. forces are pulling out completely of the “Valley of Death.”

Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington’s raw and searing doc illustrates the daily fighting that marked the Korangal Outpost, particularly the violence surrounding a particular outpost named for one of the 42 soldiers killed in the area — Restrepo.

Buried in the NY Times piece is this admission Maj. Ukiah Senti:

“Realistically no one needs to be there,” he said. “We’re not really overwatching anything other than safeguarding ourselves.”
