Sandra Bullock Needs to Move On

Sandra Bullock Needs to Move On

My new Career Watch column at AOL Moviefone’s Inside Movies looks at Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock. Here’s a taste:

Signature line: “Don’t you lie to me.” If Sandra Bullock ever used that line on her rapscallion husband Jesse James, it didn’t work. The past few months have been the best of times and the worst of times for the hard-working actress, who released two hits and one flop in the same year that she won her first Oscar—and may have lost her marriage.

Career Peaks: In 2009 Bullock scored her first movie grossing over $200-million, the heart-tugging sports drama The Blind Side. (She joined a club of one, My Big Fat Greek Wedding star Nia Vardalos.) Bullock’s second smash of the year, the romantic comedy The Proposal, grossed over $300-million worldwide. Throughout her career, Bullock has deployed her crack comic timing and populist instincts to surprise effect. She learned how to drive a bus for her breakout role opposite Keanu Reeves in Speed. She chased the ordinary girl lead in the romantic sleeper While You Were Sleeping. For Miss Congeniality and its sequel, she channeled the physical comedy of Jim Carrey to play the butch FBI agent who learns how to be girl. “I like playing a dude,” she has admitted. Up-ending the romantic comedy older man-younger woman paradigm, The Proposal starred Bullock as a book editor having an affair with assistant Ryan Reynolds. Somehow, she was both bossy and sexy.
