Zeitgeist Sees a "Vision" for October

Margarethe von Trotta’s “Vision” starring Barbara Sukowa has been picked up by Zeitgeist Films. The deal for the film, which premiered at the 2009 Telluride Film Festival, was negotiated by Zeitgeist’s co-President Nancy Gerstman with Hengameh Panahi of Celluloid Dreams who is responsible for the film’s world sales and is also a producer of the film. In “Visions,” Sukowa portrays 12th Century Benedictine abbess Hildegard von Bingen, a Christian mystic, author, counselor, naturalist, scientist, philosopher, physician, herbalist, poet, visionary, composer and polymath who has emerged from the shadows of history as an extraordinary agent of faith and change. Zeitgeist plans an October theatrical release and the film is the opening screening of MoMA series, “KINO! 2010: New Cinema from Germany.”

“I knew very little about Hildegard von Bingen before I saw ‘Vision’ and I came away thrilled by her powerful and unique story,” commented Gerstman in a statement. “I have the greatest respect for Ms. Von Trotta’s oeuvre and Barbara Sukowa’s stunning performance.” [Brian Brooks]
