Eclipse World Premieres at Los Angeles Film Festival

Eclipse World Premieres at Los Angeles Film Festival

Film Independent has announced its official selections for the 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival, which runs June 17 to 27 in downtown LA.

Of the fest’s 200-plus features, shorts and music videos, twenty-eight are World, U.S. and Northern American premieres. Lisa Cholodenko’s Sundance hit The Kids are All Right will open and 3D Despicable Me, starring Steve Carell, will close the fest (marking its world premiere), but not before (by invitation only) Twilight fans are given the third installment and world premiere of Eclipse. This continues the fest’s push to play broadly to both mainstream Hollywood and Indiewood fans, especially as the venue has moved downtown.

Gala screenings include the world premiere of Percy & Felix Adlon’s Mahler on the Couch and the North American Premiere of the Mexican ten-part omnibus doc Revolución. Among the narrative competition films are world premieres of Iran’s Dog Sweat (Hossein Keshavarz), Hello Lonesome (Adam Reid) and The Wolf Knife (Laurel Nakadate), while documentary competitors include five world premieres: Make Believe (J. Clay Tweel) and U.S./Mexico’s Circo (Aaron Schock).

The international showcase boasts twenty titles hailing from Argentina, Georgia, Bulgaria and beyond – all eligible for audience awards for best International feature, best narrative feature, and best documentary feature. LAFF also features summer screenings (much-hyped indie summer releases such as Aaron Katz’s Cold Weather and Lena Dunham’s Tiny Furniture) and outdoor screenings at the Ford Amphitheatre (including B-period epic Centurion).

Community screenings, the Beyond (films that “dare to be different”) and future filmmaker showcase: high school shorts round out the packed fest’s program, offering something for just about everyone.
