Fox Searchlight Plucks “Snow Flower”

Fox Searchlight Plucks "Snow Flower"

Fox Searchlight today announced that it has acquired North American rights to Wayne Wang’s “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan,” based on the best-seller by Lisa See. In a statement, Searchlight prexies Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula said, “Wayne Wang has an incredible vision for creating beautifully moving films – there is a universal truth in his portrayals of women’s stories. We are thrilled to be distributing this touching film about the unequivocal bond and devotion between friends.” Set in both 19th C China as well as present day Shanghai, “Snow Flower” tells parallel stories about unbreakable bonds of friendship between two pairs of women. The deal was brokered by Fox Searchlight’s Tony Safford and Megan O’Brien and IDG China Media’s Ted Perkins, together with Stephen L. Saltzman of Loeb & Loeb. [Basil Tsiokos]
