"Howl," "Cyrus" To Bookend Provincetown Film Festival

The Provincetown International Film Festival has announced the slate for its 2010 edition, to take place in Provincetown, Massachusetts from June 16th through June 20th. The Opening Night Film will be the East Coast Premiere of Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s Allen Ginsberg exploration “Howl,” while the festival will close with dark comedy “Cyrus,” directed by Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass. The Friday Spotlight Selection is set with “Mao’s Last Dancer,” directed by Bruce Beresford, while the Saturday Spotlight Selection is “Kings of Pastry,” directed by Chris Hegedus and D.A. Pennebaker.

Over 50 films are being screened at the fest, including the East Coast premieres of “The Dry Land,” “All About Evil, and “Lucky,” as well as award-winning international favorites like “I Am Love,” “I Killed My Mother,” “Hipsters,” “Nowhere Boy,” “Waste Land,” “Alamar” and “Loose Cannons.” Docs screening at the fest include “Beautiful Darling,” “Bear Nation,” “The Canal Street Madam,” “Freetime Machos,” and “Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work,” while a Portugese sidebar will include “April Showers” and Fantastia Lusitana.” The festival’s Youth & Diversity Program which includes the world premiere of “Let’s Talk About Sex;” and the annual “A Night at the Drive-In” event will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of “Psycho” with the extra added attraction “Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!”

As previously announced, the 2010 Filmmaker on the Edge Award will be awarded to writer/director Kevin Smith in conversation with John Waters at the fest; Academy Award winning actor Tilda Swinton will receive the Excellence In Acting Award in conversation with B Ruby Rich; and the Faith Hubley Memorial Award will be given to the Academy Award winning directing team of Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman in conversation with John Cameron Mitchell.
