Sadly, I won’t be in Cannes this year (though horror stories of volcano-related airport delays getting there are making me a little less envious), but I will be part of the indieWIRE team on this side of the Atlantic ensuring that the many folks (Eugene Hernandez, Brian Brooks, Eric Kohn, Todd McCarthy, Anne Thompson and Sydney Levine!) over there have some support. And honestly, I feel pretty grateful I’ve got to go as many times as I have, and there’s something a little nice about not having to hustle around the south of France for 12 days with an empty stomach, a lowest-common-denominator press badge, rusty French, and – let’s face it – a hangover. But maybe I’m just convincing myself as the watching 30 Rock or Modern Family finales in my pajamas vs. watching the new Woody Allen or Apichatpong Weerasethakul or Mike Leigh or Olivier Assayas or Xavier Dolan or Gregg Araki in fancy dress wear on the French Riviera (not to mention this part) is not exactly an even match.
Anyway.. Part of what I will be doing is updating film pages for every single film screening on the Croisette, from the Official Competition to Director’s Fortnight to Un Certain Regard. criticWIRE grades, links to our coverage whether iW proper or one of our many new bloggers, trailers… It’s hopefully gonna be a good mine for the many among us not able to be there. Here’s links to all the pages, which already have a wide array of information and will build in the next two weeks:
