As we head into the long holiday weekend and May comes to a close with pre-Memorial Day fun at Enzian–including an all-day, Sunday “Grillfest” at Eden Bar featuring a free outdoor screening of STRIPES with Bill Murray at sunset– let’s give a shout-out to the participants and winners of this month’s FilmSlam. Enzian’s monthly showcase of local filmmaking made a bang of a return after it’s short hiatus during April for the Florida Film Festival (though two of last year’s winners did play in the Best of Brouhaha program in the Festival), attracting over 80 supporters and indie film lovers to the early Sunday afternoon festivities.
Taking 1st Place in the Audience voting was RJ Istvan’s FREE HEADSHOT from Deland. Written by David Cooper, the 17-minute film revolves around an unsuccessful actor who signs up to get a new headshot. 2nd Place went to Wendy Brey and Eric Thompson’s SOCKS, an Orlando film that explores the phenomenon of missing socks and their ultimate destination. And 3rd Place went to Ryan Young’s LAST LIGHT, an Orlando drama about a young couple finding comfort in each other when they discover the planet is in the midst of a cataclysmic event. Congratulations to all the filmmakers, and remember that June’s FilmSlam will take place at 1:00 PM on Sunday the 13th. See you there!
