“The Future,” Miranda July’s follow up to 2005’s Sundance and Cannes-award winning “Me and You and Everyone We Know,” has been acquired by the Match Factory. The film, starring July and Hamish Linklater (“Fantastic Four”), recently wrapped principal photography in Los Angeles. “The Future” follows a thirty-something couple whose dreamlike state of existence together jeopardizes their relationship. July explains: “We haunt ourselves, Googling our own name, perpetually clicking on search – because if we’re always searching then we never have to notice that we’ve found it, we’re there, this is really it.”
July’s “Me and You” producer, Gina Kwon, also produced “The Future,” together with Gerhard Meixner and Roman Paul of Germany’s Razor Films, in co-operation with Britain’s Film4. Haut et Court has taken French rights, while UTA is repping North America.
