Moland Signs On Skavlan's "The Elephant"

Scandinavian filmmaker Hans Petter Moland (“The Beautiful Country,” “Aberdeen”) has signed on to direct Petter Skavlan’s oil rig action thriller “The Elephant.” The film is inspired by Magnar Jonsgaard’s novel “Black Rain,” based on his experiences working on oil platforms on the North Sea in the 1970’s. The film’s title is a term for a high-yield oil field.

Speaking in a statement about the script, Moland said, ““This story changed an entire society. It is Norway’s rags-to-riches story, and at its core it reveals the abuse of huge wealth and its impact on individual lives.”

The Norwegian/German co-production will be produced by Olav Oen and Hakon Briseid. Dr. Charly Woebcken and Christoph Fisser at Studio Babelsberg (“Inglourious Basterds,” “The Reader”) will co-produce.
