Actors Sam Riley (“Control”), Garrett Hedlund (“Tron – Legacy”) and Kristen Stewart (“The Runaways”) are on board to star in Walter Salles’ film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s novel, “On The Road,” which begins shooting August, 2010. The novel is one of the Salles’ (“The Motorcycle Diaries”) favorites, according to a production release, and he travelled across the US in Kerouac’s footsteps to prepare the adaptation, filming a documentary on the “search for ‘On The Road'” as part of his working process. The film is a project which San Francisco based production company American Zoetrope has spent 30 years preparing. Rebecca Yeldham (“Anvil! The Story of Anvil”) will produce with French production company MK2, which has acquired the rights along with American Zentrope in collaboration with Film 4 (UK) and Videofilmes (Brazil).
The production budget is set at $25 million. “We are enormously proud to be collaborating on one of the last great cinematographic adventures of the 20th century to be brought to the screen,” commented producers Nathanaël Karmitz and Charles Gillibert of MK2 about the pending production.
