Summer Fizzle, So Far, According to Weekend Numbers

“While Hollywood continued to have one its slowest summer box offices in recent memory (‘Shrek Forever After’ topped the charts for a third weekend in a row with just $25 million), Indiewood didn’t fare much better,” reported Peter Knegt for indieWIRE this morning. “Of a small batch of openers, only three reported estimates early today – none of which were particularly earth shattering.” More in indieWIRE’s weekend box office round-up of indie and specialty grosses.

Meanwhile, “Last weekend’s horrific box office numbers continued into this weekend, which returned animated family film ‘Shrek Forever After’—in its third week—to the top of the fray,” elaborated reported Thompson On Hollywood today, “the only film to crack the $20-million mark!”

“The lucrative summer season is when the studios send their surefire top guns to do battle,” TOH said, “So far, the summer of 2010 is a fizzle.”
