Curtain Going Up on Summer Opera Series

Curtain Going Up on Summer Opera Series

For the third year in a row, Enzian is proud to partner with Emerging Pictures and once again present world-class opera productions filmed in hi-def around the globe. Captured at a selection of prestigious venues in Italy and Austria including La Scala, the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, and the stunning, outdoor Bregenz Festival, this year’s lineup features four operas new to Enzian’s screen and one special encore showing of the most beloved title from our first season, Verdi’s LA TRAVIATA from La Scala.

Bizet’s immortal CARMEN kicks things off on Saturday, July 3. Two weeks later on Saturday, July 17, is Verdi’s SIMON BOCCANEGRA, shot at La Scala and starring none other than Placido Domingo. The midway point of the series comes on Sunday, August 8, with the encore presentation of Verdi’s LA TRAVIATA, filmed at La Scala and directed and designed by cinema greats Liliana Cavani and Dante Ferretti, with an orchestra conducted by Lorin Maazel. Saturday, August 21, one of the opera world’s newest superstars, Juan Diego Florez, commands the stage at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in Bellini’s I PURITANI. And closing out our season on Saturday, September 4, will be a truly spectacular version of Verdi’s AIDA, directed by Graham Vick and filmed outdoors on a floating stage at the Bregenz Festival.

All screenings begin at 12 noon and individual tickets, Enzian Film Society discounted tickets, and Season Passes (save $ and get to reserve your favorite table in advance) are available now at the box office or www.enzian.org
