Six of indieWIRE‘s 50 film festivals make their debut this July. Among the list of festivals are Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic, Galway in Ireland, Sarajevo in Bosnia and the Melbourne Film Festival down under. Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

With a spotlight on new Irish cinema and the burgeoning host city, the Galway Film Fleadh (that’s Irish for Festival) is both an experience made for the local Galwegians and an extremely welcoming event for outsiders, a true filmmaker’s film festival. One of the U.S.’s premiere LGBT film festivals, Los Angeles’s Outfest, HQ’ed at the DGA in West Hollywood is a true Hollywood event. It’s still one of the largest and longest-running festivals on the west coast and promises to deliver again this year, with “Howl” and “Spork” bookending the 2010 edition (full lineup story here).
Melbourne International Film Festival

Showcasing Australian’s finest and interntational gems, the Melbourne International Film Fest is the island continent’s largest.

Recovering from its wartorn past, the Sarajevo Film Festival is a bright spot in the city’s quickly recovering cultural scene. Howard Feinstein, the curator of the fest’s international program, brings a stellar lineup year in and year out.
San Francisco Jewish Film Festival
Dates: July 24, 2010-August 9, 2010
With the distinction of being the world’s largest and oldest Jewish film festival, the SF Jewish FF presents its bigger films in the city’s epic Castro Theater.
