Matador Records is having a 21st birthday party in the perfect city: Las Vegas. All of it will go down October 1-3 at the Palms Casino & Resort, where you will probably see indie rock icons playing card games, slots, and drinking a lot (Robert Pollard, I’m looking at you). The announced lineup is arguably the greatest collection of genre-defining indie rock artists, in one place at one time, ever. A testament to the influence and power of Matador Records, the list of musicians performing reads like a “who’s who” of college radio legends. Scheduled performers include: Pavement, Sonic Youth, Guided By Voices, Yo La Tengo, Cat Power, Spoon, Belle & Sebastian, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The New Pornographers, Superchunk, Chavez, and more. As if that wasn’t enough, additional acts are to be announced soon. I think all that’s missing is some Interpol, Liz Phair and Mogwai. So far, though, it’s very tempting.
