Parlay Media Expands Film Sales Division

Kevin Iwashina and Ross Dinerstein’s Parlay Media is moving aggressively into the film sales gap left open by the departure from the indie sales field of William Morris’s Cassian Elwes and a shift at Cinetic Media toward distribution and foreign sales. To that end, they’ve hired former T & C International exec Christine D’Souza as director of content acquisitions and sales for their film sales and finance advisory division, IP Advisors.

“She will be invaluable to our growth,” says Iwashina, a former CAA agent, “and will be a key support in our continued collaborations with the major talent agencies and other film sales partners.”

Parlay will continue to work closely with all the agencies; Iwashina often partners on repping fest titles with WME’s Graham Taylor and Submarine’s Josh Braun. Among the projects coming up for sale in North America are Little Birds, a runaway story set in L.A. which is in post-production. Written and directed by Elgin James, the film stars Juno Temple, Kate Bosworth, Leslie Mann and Neal McDonough. Jamie Patricof produces.

Parlay is also repping (with WME) Xavier Gens’ The Divide, starring Milo Ventimiglia, Rosanna Arquette and Michael Biehn. Parlay also boasts a slate of films coming out of the Tribeca Film Festival including William Vincent, directed by Jay Anania and starring James Franco and The Space Between starring Melissa Leo (a co-rep with WME).

Recent deals include the sale to Phase 4 of SXSW audience award winner Brotherhood, written and directed by rookie director Will Canon; Bryan Poser’s Lovers of Hate, executive produced by the Duplass Brothers, which went to IFC; Sundance doc 8: The Mormon Proposition, which Red Flag Releasing took out, and the Sundance doc Life 2.0 to Oprah Winfrey’s OWN, which will launch in 2011.
