Local indie film lovers, friends, filmmakers, and family members got out of the Central Florida heat to spend a little Sunday afternoon time in the cool confines of a darkened Enzian Theater last weekend and attend the July FilmSlam. The latest monthly installment of this Florida filmmakers-only shorts showcase featured somewhat longer works (half the films were 14 minutes plus) from six different towns in the Sunshine State: Gainesville, Orlando, Kissimmee, Ormond Beach, Windermere, and Sorrento. 1st Place in the Audience Award ballots went to Chris Bohlender and Jeremy Rowland’s PRODIGAL, described as the story of the rebellious son of a Southern farmer who leaves home in search of a good time but finds a lot more than he bargained for. 2nd Place went to Joops Fragale and Frazer Lee’s SIMONE, a mystery about a young woman faced with a chilling discovery as the previous night’s revelry comes into focus. And final kudos to 3rd Place winner FULL CIRCLE, Darran and Rohan Khublall’s film about a paraplegic thief.
Congratulations to all the filmmakers. As momentum takes us even closer to the grand finale of all of Enzian’s Florida filmmaker events–the 19th annual Brouhaha Film & Video Showcase, December 4 & 5–remember that the August FilmSlam will actually take place on the 3rd Sunday of the month, August 15. Mark your calendars…
