Veteran director Barry Levinson (Rain Man and HBO’s You Don’t Know Jack, nominated for 15 Emmys) is to direct Columbia Pictures’ Jack Healey biopic Brother Jack. The coming-of-age story is based on Healey’s life as he leaves the priesthood and arrives on the streets, where he fought for and pioneered human rights issues and activism.
The activist helped to make human rights a top priority of governments, organizations and world citizens, often by creative use of media and music. For 12 years Healey was the Executive Director of Amnesty International USA, and is currently the head of the Human Rights Action Network, where his goals include the support of growing human rights groups worldwide, raising the awareness of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, restoring Aung San Suu Kyi’s power in Burma, creating meaningful solutions to help victims protect themselves, and developing a fund designated to remove people from harm’s way in extreme cases of human rights abuse.
Healey, along with Mosaic, is producing the film. Harley Peyton (Bandits) wrote the screenplay, with a rewrite by Kelly Masterson (Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead).
