Over the weekend, we visited New Canaan, CT and like every time we visit the town, I noticed the New Canaan Playhouse. A part of the tiny, Connecticut-based Bowtie Cinemas chain, the Playhouse only has two screens (currently, Toy Story 3 and Knight And Day are screening). This brand of small-town cinema, is my favorite. Concessions cost a reasonable amount of money, the programming is more personal, and the same person who sells you a ticket is likely the one running the projector. Coincidentally, Monday’s New York Times features an article that captures the local spirit of these small-town cinemas. I grew up attending these movie theaters, so that’s the reason I have such a fondness for them.
