Underworld's Wiseman in Talks to Direct Total Recall

Sony is back in the Len Wiseman business. And a major studio is greenlighting yet another remake of an Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle; they have to hope this one will do better than the recent Predators.

The director who commandeered Sony’s lucrative Underworld franchise is now in talks, the studio announced Thursday, to take over a remake of sci-fi actioner Total Recall:

The film will be a new, contemporized adaptation of Total Recall, which was based on the story, “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick.  Kurt Wimmer is writing the screenplay.  Neal H. Moritz will produce through his Original Film banner.

Wiseman comes from the production design side of filmmaking, starting out in the art department on Godzilla, Stargate, Men in Black, and Independence Day. He moved into directing commercials for PlayStation, Time Warner, Oracle, Intel and Activision, as well as music videos for Quarashi, Rufus Wainwright, Megadeath, En Vogue, Static X, Paul Oakenfold, and Brooke Allison.

Wiseman wrote and directed Underworld and directed and exec produced Underworld: Evolution; he produced Underworld: Rise of the Lycans All three starred his wife, Kate Beckinsale, who will also star in the upcoming Underworld 4, which Wiseman is co-writing and producing. He also directed the hit sequel Live Free or Die Hard and the pilot for Hawaii Five-O.

Columbia Pictures obtained the rights to Total Recall from Miramax. Original Films’ Toby Jaffe will oversee production, which will be supervised at Columbia by Matt Tolmach and Sam Dickerman.
