Company History
Strand Releasing was formed in 1989 as an independent distributor handling auteur-driven films.

Strand has been honored with two decade retrospectives in 1999 and 2009 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, as well as honors at the Seattle International Film Festival, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, the Provincetown Film Festival and Outfest in Los Angeles. This year the company is being honored at both the George Eastman Center in New York as well as the Chicago International Film Festival.
