Alexis Dos Santos: Rocky's film - a film inside a film

Here’s a scene I wrote. It’s a film that Rocky makes to show Lulu what his childhood was like…

ROCKY (Voice Over) :
“When I was seven years old I used to live in an island in the middle of the ocean.”

A little man in a sailor suit stands alone in an island in the middle of the ocean. It’s a little sailor Playmobile standing inside a flower pot with a giant single tulip right behind him. The flower pot is the island and the ocean surrounding it is made out of shiny blue plastic.

“The only other other human available to play with was a boy two years older than I.”

Two little sailor Playmobiles sitting on the edge of the flower pot staring into the sea.

“Syd was my older brother therefore he was the fastest, the funniest and cleverest.”

The two little sailors run around in the island chasing each other. The movements are those of a homemade stop-frame animation.

“Little did we know that we were being watched from above and something big was about to happen. Something that would change the course of our lives.”

A bright light points down at the two little sailors. It’s a flying saucer and our two little heroes are both sucked into the light, going up and disappearing. The flying saucer flies away into the sky…

“Yes my friends. We were abducted by aliens. But let me show you what these creature looked like.”

The group of EURO-TECHNO-FREAKS posing for the camera. A colourful dozen men and women in their 20s and 30s, some of them fully naked. A lesbian couple with bright blue hair. An albino with dreadlocks. A naked Japanese girl with wings. A naked couple (ROCKY’s PARENTS) and the two naked boys playing with sand. The older boy looking at the camera.

“My brother Syd told me that Juliette, Jago and a Japanese girl that everyone called Jap all came from the same planet and in their planet everyone’s name’s started with J”

A picture of the universe. Stars and planets. Jupiter. The letter J highlighted in a fluorescent colour.

“For quite a long period of time I was convinced that Syd was right we’ve been abducted by aliens from planet J. And now we were surrounded by them.”

Pictures of parties at the beach. Ibiza in the early 90s. Our two little sailor Playmobiles appear in every picture, surrounded by the party monsters, staring out at us as if asking for help.

“Eventually we befriended the aliens and managed to survive all the summers that we’ve been abducted after that. We got used to them and after a while we couldn’t tell the difference between aliens and humans between planet earth and outer space. And that’s the end of the story.”

Title card reads : THE END
