Kino Lorber was formed in December 2009 through a merger of two of the leading distributors of critically acclaimed world cinema, classics, and award winning documentaries–Kino International, the 33 year old company founded and run continuously by Don Krim and Lorber Films, the successor to Fox Lorber and Koch Lorber, businesses established over a 30 year period by film industry pioneer Richard Lorber. Lorber and Krim met in their freshman year at Columbia and have been friends ever since, the basis for a strong partnership.
Types of films in distributor’s slate:
We seek the best in world cinema and docs, and distribute on all platforms with an eye to connecting directly with our customers through innovative theatrical and home entertainment marketing–we deliver the classics and “the classics of tomorrow” through highly curated selections played in cinemas around the country. Included in that are: festival circuit american indies, award winning foreign language films, politically themed themed features and docs–with strong specialties in middle eastern themes and french, german, russian, asian and latin american cinema…we also specialize in classics and docs focused on new consciousness and spirituality.
Advice for filmmakers:
Roll up your sleeves and get to work…we look upon our filmmakers as partners and advance a D.I.T. strategy (Do It Together)…
