Sony Classics to Bring Almodovar’s “Skin” to N. America

Sony Classics to Bring Almodovar's "Skin" to N. America

All North American rights to Oscar-winning Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar’s next feature, “The Skin That I Inhabit” (La Piel Que Habito) has been picked up by Sony Pictures Classics. The latest pick up by SPC of Almodóvar’s work is the latest in a long partnership with the director and his brother Agustin Almodóvar’s company, El Deseo. Production began in Spain in August.

The film stars Almodóvar veteran actor Antonio Banderas (“Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown”), Elena Anaya (“Talk to Her”) and Marisa Paredes (“Talk to Her) in what is described as Gothic tale about a father’s avenging his daughter’s death. The film is inspired by the novel “Mygale” by Thierry Jonquet.

The Director of Photography is Jose Luis Alcaine (“Volver”), and Almodóvar collaborator Alberto Iglesias (“Talk to Her,” “Volver”) is composing the score.

Commenting on the pick up, SPC said in a statement: “Almodóvar and Sony Pictures Classics are family and have been for two decades. We are so happy to be together again with Pedro, Agustin, Barbara, and the entire team at El Deseo on this new film which promises not only to be Almodóvar at his most intriguing, but also at his very best.”

Michael Barker and Tom Bernard serve as co-presidents of Sony Pictures Classics–an autonomous division of Sony Pictures Entertainment they founded with Marcie Bloom in January 1992, which distributes, produces, and acquires independent films from around the world.
