Strand to "Feed the Fish" in U.S. Theaters

Strand Releasing has grabbed the U.S. rights to “Feed the Fish,” the ensemble comedy from Michael Matzdorff. The film is the first feature from the director, though he has served as the writer/director on two short films and edited numerous TV shows, including episodes of “Monk.” The film follows Joe Peterson (Ross Partridge), a children’s book writer who is dealing with a mid-life crisis. To remedy his ills, he hits the road to a Polar Bear Plunge in northern Wisconsin. “Monk” star Tony Shaloub leads the cast of the film as a sheriff that Peterson meets on his trip. The film has so far only been seen in self-distributed screenings in three cities in Wisconsin, which have grossed more than $40,000.

Speaking of producer/co-star Shaloub, Matzdorff noted, “Working with Tony was truly an education. He is a remarkably talented actor. His ability to find elements in the material and subtleties in the characters elevated the film. His eye in the editing room for story and comedy helped make some good moments great and he brought some unexpected ideas to the table. I was fortunate to have him on board as an actor as well as producer and counsel.”

The deal was negotiated between Strand’s Jon Gerrans, who called the film “a real charmer,” and Upload Films’ Todd Williams.
