Who is Joyce McKinney, star of Errol Morris' Tabloid?

Curious about the subject matter of Errol Morris’ Toronto-bound doc “Tabloid” — one of my top picks to see at the festival — I did a little digging and it didn’t take long to see what fascinated the documentary filmmaker about his latest character, former “Miss Wyoming” Joyce McKinney. According to various blogs and sources, McKinney was one of the biggest headlines in the late 1970s, made famous, as described in this Wikipedia entry “Mormon sex in chains case,” for allegedly abducting, imprisoning and chaining a Mormon man to a bed in a cottage, and then attempting to seduce and rape him.

In 2008, McKinney’s story got even weirder, when it became apparent that a woman with a similar name and facial features made headlines after having her pet dog cloned in Korea. After his political excursions “Fog of War” and “Standard Operating Procedure,” I’m looking forward to seeing Morris back on more eccentric terrain.
