A Tribute to Fellini's La Dolce Vita

The fifth Rome International Film Festival (October 28 to November 5) will mount a 50th anniversary tribute on October 30 to Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita with the premiere of the film’s new digital restoration at the Sala Petrassi of the Auditorium Parco della Musica. The Film Foundation and Gucci backed the film’s restoration.

Three exhibitions complement the screening: from Oct. 30 – Jan. 30, “Labirinto Fellini,” at the MACRO Testaccio, La Pelanda, will show a selection of Fellini’s photographs, clips and drawings as well as a magical installation that takes audiences behind Fellini’s sets. From Oct. 28 – Dec, 20, the Senate’s Library will house images and articles from “1960. The world in the years of La dolce Vita.” And through Nov. 14, “La Dolce Vita: 1950-1960. Stars and Celebrities in the Italian Fifties” showcases 100 never-seen photographs and 100 illustrated magazines from the 1950s, which combined, trace the era’s characters in the Italian imagination. Lastly, a retrospective of the films that preceded and inspired La Dolce Vita— “The crazy nights of La Dolce Vita”–will screen at the the Centro Sperimentaledi Cinematografia – Cineteca Nazionale, plus Antoello Sarno’s documentary look behind the scenes on set and at the film’s Rome and Milan premieres.
