Wrekin Hill will open Tribeca Film Fest doc The Last Play at Shea in 120 markets for exclusive one-night stand engagements on October 21. Initial cities include New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, Boston, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Dallas, and Washington, D.C.. Several theaters will hold the film for an extended theatrical run.
For those of us who like baseball and rock, this movie has both the Mets and Long Island’s favorite son, rocker Billy Joel, who gave the last performances–July 16 and 18, 2008–at the Mets long-time home, Shea Stadium. Joel decided to document the event and provide a history of the stadium, which also hosted the Beatles live. The film cuts in concert footage from Tony Bennett, Garth Brooks, John Mayer and Roger Daltrey. After Tribeca, the movie also screened on August 21, 2010 at CitiField: the biggest outdoor movie exhibition since 1919.
Exclusive’s Spitfire Pictures Label and Billy Joel’s Maritime Pictures produced the doc. Here’s Variety’s review by John Anderson.
