Blind Shaft

Blind Shaft

It happens. I’m sure I’m not the only person who spent much of the now-concluded Chilean mine saga thinking about the 2003 drama Blind Shaft, by Li Yang. This little-seen but acclaimed film, is the story of corrupt and seedy miners in China who seek opportunities to murder co-workers and reap the benefits. In the dark and underground environments of these mines, who knows what happened? And, for the opportunistic and cold-blooded, such acts could amount to the perfect crime. That’s basically what Blind Shaft is all about, and it’s a great film that no one really saw upon its release stateside.
