Casting Watch: Great Muppet Movie, Great Oz Plot, Solondz Adds Walken, Farrow, Blair

– Amy Adams, Chris Cooper and Rashida Jones are joining Disney’s The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made. Adams and Jason Segal play a (human) couple on a mission to reunite all the muppets to put on a show that will save a movie studio. Cooper is the villain of the piece, while Jones is a studio executive. Writer/director James Bobin (Ali G, Flight of the Conchords is directing the puppet pic for a Merry Christmas debut in 2011.

– While Robert Downey Jr. is not yet confirmed to star in director Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful, Pajiba has unearthed some juicy plot details:

The wizard: “a snake-oil salesman posing as a magician.” Making the hot air balloon relevant: “he uses [it] to escape an angry husband who has found out that Oz slept with his wife.” The love interest: “Glinda(the Good Witch), and the two combine forces to Fight the Evil Witches…[who are both] incredibly attractive, seductive women…[one of whom] likes to wear black, thigh-high boots.”

– Christopher Walken and Mia Farrow will star as the parents and Selma Blair as a reluctant love interest in Todd Solondz’s indie drama Dark Horse, produced by Ted Hope, which started filming this week. Jordan Gelber is at the center of the family drama – the dark horse of the family that unhappily works for his dad, lives at home and collects toys while his brother, played by Justin Bartha (The Hangover), serves as the good son.
