Hamptons: Sally Hawkins Showcase

Sally Hawkins swooped into the Hamptons last night for a brief appearance at the Hamptons International Film Festival. Currently on Broadway in “Mrs. Warren’s Profession,” Hawkins stepped off the Manhattan stage yesterday and into a helicopter for a short flight to the festival. After the screening of her new film, “Made in Dagenham,” I moderated a conversation with Sally that touched on her role in the new British movie. Still bubbling about the copter trip, Sally said that she shot cellphone video of the journey to share with her mother. She said that her mom and grandmother were crucial to her decision to make the movie, which tracks the 1960s fight to gain equal pay for women working in a Ford Motor Company automotive factory.

After the Q & A, Sally posed for photos with local girls and then a group of us headed to Della Femina Restaurant for a small dinner hosted by Judy Licht. Sally lasted about an hour at the meal before she was on the move again. A car was waiting to take her back to the airport for the return helicopter trip to Manhattan.
