Indomina Snatches "Bodyguards" for the U.S.

U.S. rights to Hong Kong title “Bodyguards and Assassins” by Teddy Chen have been picked up by Indomina Releasing. Starring martial artist and Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen (“Hero”) and Leon Lai (“Seven Swords”), the film follows a motley crew of five men and women fighting for freedom and democracy. In this action-packed martial arts film set in 1906 Hong Kong, a gang must work together to protect the man destined to lead them to a new, modern China from a group of deadly assassins. According to Indomina, “they must act with their courage, strength and conscience and ignite a revolution.”

Indomina Releasing’s Vice President of Acquisitions Rob Williams negotiated the pact with We Distribution’s Executive Vice President Katherine Lee on behalf of the filmmakers. The film received 18 nominations at the 29th annual Hong Kong Film Awards with a number of wins including best director. “Bodyguards and Assassins opened in theaters in Asian territories, grossing $50 million.

“‘Bodyguards and Assassins’ is an epic martial arts thriller, delivering intense fighting sequences and nonstop action,” commented Jasbinder Singh Mann, C.E.O. of Indomina Group in a statement. “This film defines the Indomina brand, and we are proud to bring this film to the United States.”

Other recent Indomina acquisitions include “Griff the Invisible,” “Wasted on the Young,” “True Legend” and “Fire of Conscience.”
