As many of my Texas friends and family spend their time at this year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival over the weekend, I wonder if they will get a chance to see JD and the Straight Shot. There’s certainly a lot of us in the New York media world who would love to see the band, as it’s fronted by Jim Dolan, CEO of Cablevision, Rainbow Media (which owns IFC), and Madison Square Garden. From a very short piece in Austin 360:
The wealthiest musician playing ACL is… not Don Henley or any other member of the Eagles. It’s Jim Dolan, who owns the New York Knicks, Comcast [sic] and Madison Square Garden- but not in that order. Dolan’s band JD and the Straight Shot play the BMI stage Sunday at 1:40 p.m. Not surprisingly, there’s no mention of Dolan’s day job in the ACL program.
Maybe we should have a battle of the bands, between JD and the Straight Shot and The Martinets, a band fronted by Magnolia Pictures president Eamonn Bowles.
