Lynch to Present "Eraserhead," "Sunset Blvd" & More at AFI Fest Sidebar

Serving as AFI Fest’s first-ever Guest Artistic Director, David Lynch picked five feature films to screen as a sidebar in the upcoming AFI Fest in Los Angeles. Lynch’s first feature, “Eraserhead,” will also screen in the section, organizers said Monday.

Ingmar Bergman’s “Hour of the Worlf,” Stanley Kubrick’s “Lolita,” Jacques Tati’s “Mon Oncle,” Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” and Billy Wilder’s “Sunset Blvd” will be featured in the sidebar. On Saturday, November 6, Lynch will attend the festival to present a double-bill of “Eraserhead” and “Sunset Blvd.” Also starting today, the public can tweet questions for Lynch. Responses will take place during the double-bill presentation. Questions should be sent to the AFI Fest Twitter account (@AFIFEST).

“I picked these particular films because they are the ones that have inspired me most. I think each is a masterpiece,” commented Lynch in a statement. “If people have already seen them, they are certainly worth being seen again. And if people haven’t seen them, here is an opportunity to see what I consider cinema at its best.”

Lynch made “Eraserhead” while he was a Fellow at AFI’s Centger for Advanced Film Studies, now known as the AFI Conservatory. He graduated from AFI in 1970.

AFI Fest 2010 presented by Audi will take place in Hollywood, California at the historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, the Mann Chinese 6 theatres, the Egyptian Theatre and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel from November 4 – 11. To view the AFI Fest lineup, click here.
