As the curtain fell on September this past weekend, it dawned on me that last month’s FilmSlam winners were never given their due at this site. And with October’s event just a few days away, it’s better-late-than-never time to give a shout-out to the audience favorites of our monthly Florida short film showcase. 1st Place was awarded to Lavado Stubbs’ powerful profile of a survivor of rape, AFTER: THE KELLIE GREENE STORY. The fact that the film runs less than 10 minutes and won the most votes at the FilmSlam guarantees it a spot in December’s Brouhaha Film & Video Showcase, where it will compete with other FilmSlam winners, in-state independent submissions, and works curated by Florida high school and college film programs for a spot in the 2011 Florida Film Festival. Congratulations to Lavado!
Kudos also to September’s 2nd and 3rd Place winners, Jason Bumpus and Shawn McKee’s GARY’S GANG, about an overly popular tenant in an apartment building, and Sebastian Jones’ DRIFT, about a heavy sleeper and his dream world.
October’s FilmSlam will take place this Sunday, 10/10, at 1:00 PM, so be sure to come check out the latest batch of impressive short works from all around Central Florida. As always, admission is only $5.00, so come show your support. And don’t forget, Call-for-Entries are still out for the 19th annual Brouhaha Film & Video Showcase, December 4 & 5, and we’ll be taking short film submissions (25 min or less) until October 22. Info and an entry form can be found on the website at http://www.enzian.org/festivals/brouhaha/
