Stephen Norrington No Longer Involved With 'The Crow,' Says Actor Is Demanding Rewrite

And No, It’s Not Mark Wahlberg

It seemed like a pipe dream at best, so we’re not too surprised to learn that despite an offer being made, Mark Wahlberg is probably not involved in the forthcoming Nick Cave-scribed “The Crow” remake. But another actor apparently is and he has enough pull to demand a rewrite, and in the process, the film has lost director Stephen Norrington.

“I don’t know about [the Wahlberg rumors] but I can tell you I’m no longer involved with ‘The Crow’,” Stephen Norrington (“Blade,” “The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen“) has revealed to Mania (via Dark Horizons). Norrington said that an unnamed actor wanted a rewrite on Norrington/Cave script and it appears the director thinks what they had come up with was good enough. “As I had gotten involved explicitly as a writer-director my exit was inevitable. I was bummed. I had developed a genuinely authentic take that respected the source material while moving beyond it, and Nick Cave came in and added more depth,” Norrington said. “I think the fans would have been pleasantly surprised.”

No word yet on the actor but Mania suggests that it isn’t Mark Wahlberg who pretty much seemed like a long shot anyway. So what will Norrington do next? He’s going to go back to working on “The Lost Patrol” for Warner Bros. which was announced at the beginning of the year. It’s a supernatural WWII tale that contains “hardware, heroes, grime, insane monsters.” He also says, “I’m also just about to start production on an indie animation/live action project, which will take a few years to complete.”

No word yet on who will replace Norrington or what will become of the Cave script but it looks like by time it hits screens, it will bear little resemblance to what he had in mind. And if anyone has a copy of Cave’s script, we wouldn’t mind taking a look….
