A Brief Love Letter To Copenhagen & CPH: DOX

A Brief Love Letter To Copenhagen & CPH: DOX

I spent most of this first full day back from Denmark writing this beast of a dispatch on CPH: DOX that has drained most of capability for word making, so bear with me… But it seems unreasonable for me to not offer at least a brief more personal note to supplement the bigger piece. Because CPH: DOX truly is a film festival of the future, and I felt very honored to be on their jury and to get to have 6 days with that festival and in that city. I need to definitely thank the folks behind the festival and my fellow jurors for aiding in making that so true.

I also have this horribly neurotic tendency to constantly consider anything – films… cities… film festival experiences… god, even people – in list form inside my head. Admitting this on here is questionable and probably a result of jetlag induced temporary insanity, but: The past week definitely offered additions to a variety of them. “The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu,” “The Arbor,” and most especially “Le Quattro Volte” rank high among the best films I’ve seen in the past year; Copenhagen is now #3 on my favourite cities in the world list (which goes 1. Berlin 2. Montreal.. but the beauty of Copenhagen and the energy of its people certainly rivals both); and CPH: DOX is definitely a top 5 festival experience honoree. Its a testament to the experience that I basically took no photos, did no blogging and made no contact outside that world for a week. I just wanted to be able to experience it as much as could before it was gone. And for someone who is normally super ADD about everything, getting my undivided attention for a full week is quite something.

Until next year, if I could only be so lucky…
