AFM News: Rabbit Hole's Aaron Eckhart Goes Mainstream with Actioner The Expatriate

Aaron Eckhart, who’s getting Oscar buzz for the upcoming John Cameron Mitchell drama Rabbit Hole opposite Nicole Kidman (December 17) and played Harvey Dent/Two Face in The Dark Knight, is finalizing negotiations to star as an ex-CIA agent in The Expatriate, an action-thriller and father-daughter drama from A.E. Amel’s original screenplay. Philipp Stölzl (North Face, Goethe!) will direct what Essential Entertainment executive producer John Fremes calls “a kinetic commercial thriller” with worldwide appeal. Essential is producing along with Informant Media and Smash Media. Shooting is intended for early 2011 in Belgium and Montreal.

The synopsis is after the jump.

Former CIA agent Ben Logan (Eckhart) hopes to make a fresh start with his estranged 15-year-old daughter Amy. He takes work in Belgium as a security expert for a large multinational corporation. Arriving one morning at the branch office, Logan discovers his division no longer exists, his colleagues have all vanished, and his assistant is actually a trained operative intent on killing both him and daughter. To survive long enough to figure out what happened and why someone wants them killed, Logan and Amy flee, with a highly trained kill squad in pursuit. Father and daughter, little more than strangers, must rely on one another. And to do so, they must learn to trust each other. That trust is shattered when Amy learns the truth about her father’s shadowy past that has thrust them into the midst of a dangerous global conspiracy.
