First Run Has "Orgasm"

First Run Features has annonced that it has acquired North American theatrical, television, home video and internet rights to “Orgasm, Inc.,” Liz Canner’s documentary that explores the strange science of female pleasure, and in the process reveals the often warped mentality of our pharmaceutical and medical industries. First Run will launch the film theatrically in early 2011, following its festival run.

As described by First Run:

“‘Orgasm Inc.’ begins when filmmaker Liz Canner is hired to edit erotic videos to be used in a drug trial for a pharmaceutical company. Her employer is developing what they hope will be the first FDA approved “Viagra” drug for women that will treat a new disease: Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD). Intrigued, Liz decides to make a movie about the science of female pleasure. But she soon begins to suspect that her employer, along with other medical and pharmaceutical companies, might be trying to take advantage of women (and potentially endanger their health) in pursuit of profit.”

“I’m honored and delighted that ‘Orgasm, Inc.’ has been picked up by First Run Features,” Canner commented in a statement. “They are a company that has passionately distributed some of the best films by the finest directors for over thirty years. I’m confident that they will give ‘Orgasm, Inc.’ an explosive release and present the film in a way that will stimulate and satisfy the audience.”

Marc Mauceri, VP of First Run Features, commented: “We’re ecstatic to be working with Liz and her team on this most enjoyable and important film. It’s not often we’re in a position to plan and implement a nationwide Orgasm rollout. It’s going to be a fun ride!”
