New York Jets Linebacker Bart Scott To Get 'Blind Side' Styled Biopic

Ok, full disclosure (though probably not a major shock): we here at the Playlist are not really sports dudes/dudettes. Okay, some of us pay attention to the English Premier League but this writer in particular only found out this morning that the San Francisco Giants won the World Series and really couldn’t tell you anything that’s going on in the National Football League. At any rate, we’re in the minority, and we know it. Every now and then Hollywood makes us pay attention to the sports world, and following the massive box office of last year’s inspirational football film “The Blind Side” it’s no surprise that they are looking to duplicate that success.

Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne‘s Unique Pictures think they’ve found their ticket, putting a biopic about New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott into development. They’ve hired Black List-approved Richard Regen (“Tehran“) to pen the screenplay about “Scott’s survival of a childhood spent in a violent neighborhood of Detroit, to become one of the best linebackers in the game.”

Scott grew up on the east side of Detroit and helped stay out of the drugs and violence of his neighborhood thanks to the guidance of his family, his grandmother and his high school coach. You can read more about his life by checking out profiles in Sports Illustrated and The New York Times. This isn’t our particular cup of tea, but we’re not gonna knock it either. It sounds like Scott certainly is one of the few to rise out of a tough childhood and it should serve for an interesting film.
