Social Network's Armie Hammer Gets Actor-Nerdy Talking Winklevi, Fincher, Sorkin, Rowing

TOH’s Sophia Savage sat down with The Social Network‘s scene stealer Armie Hammer on Tuesday afternoon:

We started our hour together talking about our Vespas, and finished it with a hug. In between, Armie Hammer and I got “actor nerdy” talking his portrayal of the Winklevi (both Winklevoss twins, whom he sees as “a manifestation of the duality that we all experience within us”), rowing (I compare The Social Network to a well-formed 8, in crew-speak, Fincher being the coxswain, and so on), working with an Aaron Sorkin script, being directed by “perfectionist” and “savant” David Fincher, and how to follow up such a breakout success. See our four-part conversation below.

He’s been discussing his next move (nothing he’s willing to report yet), but revealed that he has been anxiously waiting for five days to hear about one project (perhaps the news that broke today about him joining Clint Eastwood’s Hoover biopic with Leonardo DiCaprio). Until more projects materialize, he is working on getting indie film Serpent Girl off the ground with producer-writer-director Matthew Carnahan (The Kingdom). Hammer describes it as “The Hangover meets Hunter S. Thompson.”

The most impressive thing about David Fincher? There are many, he says, including “a level of perfectionism that I’ve never seen before, but he also has the determination and the focus to execute it, and he will not let anything get in the way of it.”
