Sundance's "Hobo with a Shotgun" Picked Up by Magnet Releasing

Jason Eisener’s “Hobo with a Shotgun” is making its way to U.S. theaters. The film was picked up by Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, ahead of its world premiere at next year’s Sundance Film Festival. “Hobo with a Shotgun” will first appear in the festival’s Park City at Midnight section along with two other niche genre titles from Magnet Releasing, incluidng Kim Jeewon’s “I Saw the Devil” and André Overdal’s “The Troll Hunter.”

The U.S. rights were negotiated by Magnet Releasing’s Senior Vice-President, Tom Quinn, with Nicolas Eschbach, the Executive Vice-President of International Distribution from TF1 International.

The film stars Rutger Hauer as a man drifting through a series of crime-ridden urban streets. Fed up with the violence around him, he takes matters (and, apparently, a shotgun) into his own hands.

“Pure blood-drunk, bat-shit-crazy fun. Both Jason Eisener and Rutger Hauer were born to make ‘Hobo’,” Quinn said in a statement. “We’re so excited to have this on the Magnet slate for 2011.”

Director Jason Eisener added, “May god have mercy on Magnet for having the bravery to unleash the madness that is ‘Hobo with a Shotgun.’ I know we’re in bloody good hands with them as I’m a big fan of all the films they release. We’re taking a car ride to hell with this film and I can’t think of a better team to be riding shotgun.”
